Abstract
Summary: A two-dimensional numerical sea model is used to compute the distribution of the M2 component of the tide within the North Sea. The results from this are compared with observations and shown to be in good agreement. The model is also used to investigate the sensitivity of these results to changes in prescribed boundary data and, based on this, recommendations are made about the best positions along the boundary for siting five or six off-shore tide gauges in the forthcoming JONSDAP '76 oceanographic experiment.
